Following the various lockdowns, a study has shown that more and more people have become interested in taking care of plants and greenery. In fact, even those who don’t have much space haven’t given up on purchasing a few plants to scatter on windowsills or in their living room.

This happened because it has been proven that taking care of plants helps relieve tension. Furthermore, some indoor (and non-indoor) plants can also have beneficial effects on the air we breathe in our homes. Some, in fact, are even capable of absorbing formaldehyde and other dangerous substances, commonly contained, for example, in paints.

However, it is not always possible to make your plants grow lush and healthy. This can happen for various reasons. One of these is poor fertilization . Not everyone has a green thumb and is able to understand when to fertilize and how. Luckily, there are natural ingredients that are very powerful for our plants. Let’s discover one that is even stronger than water.


The ingredient stronger than water

The strongest ingredient than water to use for our plants is actually water-based and we usually throw it away because we don’t know what to do with it. This is rice cooking water which, with its properties, can be highly beneficial for vegetables.

It is a white liquid, more or less dense, which we usually throw down the sink. This is because we are not aware of the fact that it is very rich in nutrients, which is used in agriculture with a dual purpose.

The first is to hydrate the plant. Secondly, to nourish it because it is rich in minerals (potassium, magnesium, etc.) which help plants grow stronger, healthier and faster. Furthermore, rice water also contains carbohydrates and starches that soil microorganisms need to do their work.


To use it you need to put some rice in a bowl full of water. It must be rinsed thoroughly with water , with your hands, rubbing it. Alternatively you can use the cooking water. The next operation will be to filter the water with a strainer in order to remove the rice .

With this water, water your plants at least three times a week . Especially in summer, watering with rice water should be done after five in the afternoon. In this way, there will be less evaporation and the soil will absorb all the nutrients useful to the plants.
